Rockin’ Ronnie named one of America’s greatest grillers
Barbecue Secrets author featured in June edition of Food & Wine magazine
VANCOUVER – Canadian barbecue champion and bestselling author Ron “Rockin’ Ronnie” Shewchuk is featured in this month’s Food & Wine magazine as one of nine leading North American grilling cookbook authors who share their most sought-after recipes.
Shewchuk, author of Barbecue Secrets: Unbeatable recipes, tips & tricks from a barbecue champion (Whitecap Books) is the only Canadian among the “greatest grillers” highlighted in the magazine, which includes dishes by famed chefs Bobby Flay and Steven Raichlen.
“It’s a real honor to be recognized by Food & Wine,” says Shewchuk, “especially to be included among some of my culinary heroes.” A special section of the June edition of the magazine, titled “Grilling’s Greatest Hits,” includes Shewchuk’s Spicy Cumin-Crusted Pork Steaks.
Interest in Barbecue Secrets is growing in the United States, where retailer Williams-Sonoma is now carrying it throughout its chain of high-profile stores. The book, now in its third printing, has also been getting positive attention north of the border. Barbecue Secrets is a Canadian bestseller and recently won a Silver Award from Vancouver magazine as one of the three best food books of 2004.
Shewchuk has a busy backyard cooking season ahead of him, with a second cookbook in the works and a full slate of grilling and barbecue classes in Calgary , Kelowna and Vancouver – culminating in the second annual two-day “barbecue bootcamp” in Whistler on the July long weekend.
